Hurry Up! We need to get things done as soon as possible.

This message is specially dedicated to the 1 Tekun students of 2010 batch. Please have all the brochures and slideshows done as soon as possible. Below is the most recent message that i have received from the teacher of one of the Thailand schools that we are collaborating with for the project:

"I have already sent you 15 files of my students' tasks of Stage 4 : Travel Guides. I'm not sure that all students will display their task online in time and wonder if they all do, the web will have the enough capacity to load for all tasks. They might show what stage they are doing and display some for example together with the evaluation sheet. If possible, I try to finish the Travel Guides Project by the end of this month.
For the evaluation sheet, students can make a colourful highlight for which level they evaluate or make it bold font and add some comments in the last part of the sheet. What about you? I hope to hear from you soon."
It's quite embarrassing that i had to come up with so many excuses for our slow progress. I'm afraid that we are giving them the negative perception that we are not serious enough with the project. If you people are committed enough and focus more on the project, you'll be surprised that you can finish until the final stage within just one day. Please, i hope there'll be no more delay in your work.

To 2 tekun stdnts of 2010 batch, u r supposed to collaborate with another school from Thailand which is supervised by Mr. Scott Johnson (bccc teacher). However, i have not yet received any response from him since my last email where i request for the name of the students who are participating in the project. It would be better if you could also send your soft copy of ur questionnaire to this email address: ktdthb_bccc@yahoo.com so that i can send all files of ur class to Mr. Scott at once. He has told me that his school has problem with facilities where they couldn't afford to provide enough computers together with the internet connection for his students to do the project. So, what he can do for this time being is to have all his students write their questionnaires on papers and he will type those questions and send them to me. I'll let you all know about their progress soon after i have received a new email from Mr. Scott.

Projects To Be Done During Your Holidays

Somehow I was asked by a few students regarding the project that they SHOULD carry out during their holidays. So here we are... Kids, there are supposed to be 2 PROJECTS that you should work on right now. The first one is the SCHOOL-TO-SCHOOL PROJECT where we have two schools from THAILAND collaborating with us to ensure that this project is a success. Then you have to prepare for the BETTER COMMUNITY BETTER LIFE COMPETITION which is also known as the MYTHS & BELIEFS PROJECT by most of the BCCC students of KTDTHB. Below are some simple instructions on how you should complete the tasks given for both projects:

1. SCHOOL -TO-SCHOOL PROJECT
  • design questionnaire by using the template that has been prepared for you. I think i have this template emailed to BCCC students of both classes. Then upload the questionnaire files into the BCCC forum exactly like how we have told you before.
  • to respond to the questionnaires designed by the students of Thailand schools, you will have to browse through the forum and search for their school name which can be seen on the left column. for students of 1 tekun, the Suankularb teacher has emailed to me the questionnaire files for you to respond to. But there are some more questions from them that you need to have a check on. Please respond immediately and provide more details okay.
  • you are also required to post as much as you can or update the forum by sharing some of your experiences, feelings and new knowledge that you have managed to gain while carrying out all the tasks required for the project. This requirement is actually to ensure your active participation in the BCCC program.
  • based on the responses and discussions that have been done with the Thailand students, you will have to transform all the information that you have managed to collect into brochure and powerpoint slides.
  • it would be better if you can post your final products in the forum by yourself.
2. BETTER COMMUNITY BETTER LIFE COMPETITION
  • it has been decided and agreed unanimously that we will work on the theme of CULTURAL DIVERSITY (it has been narrowed down to the topic of MYTHS and BELIEFS) for the competition.
  • your first task during the holidays is to find as many stories as you can that you think are related to the ethnic of your choice.
  • you are also required to post in the BETTER COMMUNITY BETTER LIFE COMPETITION STUDENTS FORUM to tell your friends from other countries which theme you have chosen and tell them why we choose CULTURAL DIVERSITY. you can tell them about ONE MALAYSIA if you want...it would be the best reason for the choice that we've made.
  • when you have collected all the stories, decide on how you are going to present them.. In other words you may present them in the form of artwork, poster, powerpoint presentation, report, photo collage, movie and etc.
  • the products that you have produced based on the stories that you have collected will be exhibited in an exhibition specially held for this BCCC competition. We will discuss on how we should conduct the exhibition soon after we get back to school for our first semester next year.
Due date for this competition is on March 31st 2011. By the way, i have registered our school under three categories of entry:

  1. CLASS ENTRY: after choosing a theme, the whole class will work together to produce a classroom display ( but we have planned to have the exhibition held at the Premier Hall where we combine the two classed together to work on the exhibition). This exhibition will be photographed and shared on the Connecting Classroom Online Community Better Community, Better Life project space available from http://cc.britishcouncil.org/bcbl.
  2. STUDENT ENTRY: Individual students create a few pieces of work that demonstrate what they have learnt about their community. Students' work can be submitted in any one of four formats:
  • POSTER: A3 size scanned or digitally photographed.
  • DIGITAL PRESENTATION: PowerPoint, Photo story or any other digital format.
  • SONG OR POEM: either in digital text format (MS Word, Adobe PDF or similar), MP3 or video format.
  • NEWSPAPER OR MAGAZINE ARTICLE: digital text format(MS Word, Adobe PDF or similar) with or without photos.
  1. TEACHER ENTRY: Individual teachers will create a lesson plan for one of the lessons where the community and the theme are explored. The teacher will complete an electronic lesson plan template, available from http://cc.britishcouncil.org/bcbl/. Teacher will send their entries in to the British Council Connecting Classrooms East Asia team via email to cco@britishcouncil.org.

I have checked the forum for the BCCC project (Travel Guide project), there are new questions posted by the Thailand students and each set have been addressed specifically to each pair that are assigned to do the questionnaires before. Therefore, please respond to the questions and provide enough information for them. As for some students that have complained to me on the very little response given by the partnering school students, you can use the same forum to ask for more details on the places discussed.

One more thing, please share your feelings, opinions or experience while carrying out the project in the forum. This task is also part of the project requirements.

SCHOOL-TO-SCHOOL PROJECT WITH THAILAND SCHOOL

Dear 2 Tekun & 1 Tekun teachers & students,

Our school will be collaborating with one of the schools from Thailand for the school-to-school project which is
Suankularb Wittayalai School. You can check Suankularb Wittayalai official school website via the following address: http://www.sk.ac.th

We are going to work on the theme of Travel Guide and below are the five steps on how to conduct the project retrieved from the BCCC official websites:

BC Connecting Classroom

Stage 1

What are the the interesting places? How can you get around? When to is the best time to go and what are the interesting facts about the town in which the students live in your partner countries?

Let's find out!

Download the Questionnaire from the link below and ask your partners some questions about their town. Fill in your name and details on the left of the form and then think of 5 questions to ask.

When you've finished, don't forget to save your work and then upload the file by posting a reply to this project stage 1 topic.

Done all that? Move on to stage 2!

Stage 2

Well done! You got to stage 2.

Now it's time to answer some questions about your town. We've made things easier for you by putting the questionnaires that everyone uploaded into an easy place to find. Aren't we good?

Choose a questionnaire from stage 1. Read through the posts and choose a questionnaire uploaded by someone from another country.

It's a good idea to talk to everyone in your class so that you don't all choose the same ones! Try to make sure that you all answer some from each of the 2 other countries, too.

When you've answered the questions, don't forget to save the document to your computer then upload it to this topic by posting a reply. Write the name of the person you are replying to in the notes with the attachment you upload.

When you've competed the task, you're ready to move on to stage 3

Stage 3

Now it's time to talk about the answers you've received from the questionnaires you wrote.

What were your findings? Did you find out lots about interesting places to visit, when to go and how to get there?

Let's use this topic to post comments and more questions if you'd like to find out more information for your travel guide.

After the discussion, there are 2 more stages to this project! The next is the exciting one where you make your travel guide!

You can find out details of what to do in stage 4.

Stage 4

Now that you've learned a lot about the towns and cities you all live in so it is time to present your work in the shape of a travel guide.

It's up to you how you do this - on your own or as a team, as a PowerPoint Presentation, a short video clip, an audio clip, a leaflet or poster or whatever - it's up to you, your teacher and your class to decide, but you must be able to upload the finished presentation so everyone else can see your work and give you some feedback. If you're not sure, you can use our 'Travel Guide' template by downloading it from the link to the attachment below.

When you've decided what to do and you've completed your work, upload it to this forum by posting a reply to this topic as usual.

We'll put them all together for you in a folder and you can then go on to
stage 5, which is the final stage in the 'Travel Guides' project which is evaluating the work that you have done.

Stage 5

Congratulations! You've got to stage 5 and the final stage of the 'Travel Guides' project!!

Now its time to choose one of the fantastic travel guides on the towns & cities of your countries that have been completed by you all.

Choose a presentation from stage 4. Download it, have a look at it and see what you learn from it.

When you've done that, download the 'Travel Guides Project Presentation Evaluation Form' from the link beneath this topic post and complete it. Don't forget to fill in your name and other details and then upload it to this forum by posting a reply to this topic.

Make sure you enter the name of the person's travel guide that you are evaluating in the details box under the attachment.

We are going to do this project stage by stage. So i will need teachers who teach subjects like English, history, geography, art and ICTL to assist my BCCC students throughout the whole process of completing the tasks required for this project.

SCHOOL-TO-SCHOOL PROJECT FOR 1 TEKUN & 2 TEKUN STUDENTS

I have just received a reply from Kritsada Tulkijjawong regarding the school-to-school project and below is his response:

Hi teachers,

"We are glad to inform you that we have successfully partnered you with Sirindhorn School (Surin), Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang (Miri) and Doisaket Wittayakom (Chiang Mai). Your students will be working under “Travel Guides 14” topic which you have chosen earlier.

To help you get started, you may want to visit our
School to School Project Page where you will find basic instructions as well as our most recent updates. Please ensure that you have all your students registered to our students' web community before starting the project. Please do not hesitate to contact us shall you need any assistance.

Once again thank you for your interests in our project and we hope to see you online soon!"

This second email on the other hand is from the school that we are going to collaborate with:

Dear teachers,

I'm glad to have the result of matching schools to work on the "Travel Guides" together. My name is Prapakon Wongnang, teaching English at Doisaketwitayakom School in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I teach grade 12 students and most of them are preparing themselves for a university.
Next week there will be the mid-term test at my school, so I think after the exam, we can discuss about the project and then we can start working together.

I look forward to getting in touch with you.

Best regards,
Prapakon (Toi)

We have decided to have the 1 tekun and 2 tekun to work hand in hand for this project. We will probably start discussing on the planning and execution of the project after Progressive 3 exam. Thank you.
